Bengaluru: The space below Bellandur flyover, once full of silt, debris and encroachments, has been transformed into a clean and vibrant public area, with Bengaluru East city corporation additional commissioner (development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar inaugurating the beautified stretch recently.The project was implemented with CSR support from Intel. Speaking at the inauguration, Lokhande said, “The space below the flyover was earlier filled with silt, debris and encroachments. With CSR support, we have cleared the stretch, removed unauthorised vendors and developed it into a clean, green and usable public space. This is part of our effort to create more people-friendly and sustainable urban spaces.”Subsequently, landscaping and plantation were undertaken to improve the aesthetics of the space. As part of the initiative, ‘suvidha’ cabins were also installed for pourakarmikas, ensuring improved working conditions and access to basic amenities for sanitation workers.The inauguration was attended by Intel’s senior leadership team, officials from Bengaluru east city corporation and pourakarmikas involved in maintaining the area. Civic officials said the initiative marked a significant step towards reclaiming underutilised urban spaces and improving liveability in the city, with similar projects likely to be replicated in other locations.
