Gujarat: Massive fire erupts at scrap godown in Chharodi

Ahmedabad: A major fire broke out on Thursday at a scrap godown near Chharodi village on the Sanand-Viramgam highway, causing panic in the area and sending plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky. The godown, located near a company, was rapidly engulfed by the flames that spread through large quantities of highly combustible scrap material.Officials said it took nearly three hours to bring the fire under control. According to local sources, residents alerted the authorities soon after spotting the fire. Multiple fire brigade teams were dispatched to the site, including six from Ahmedabad, and an intensive operation was launched to contain the flames. As a precaution, authorities evacuated the area around the godown. Police diverted traffic and urged people to avoid the site to facilitate firefighting and rescue operations. The fire was later brought under control, though cooling operations were still underway. More than 10 fire tenders remained deployed at the location. JCB machines were being used to clear heaps of scrap and extinguish hidden pockets of fire beneath the debris. Officials said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
