2 men held at Azamgarh stn eloping with women; booked under Conversion Act

Varanasi: Two Muslim men from Gorakhpur, taking two Hindu women with them to board a Delhi-bound train, were arrested in Azamgarh on Wednesday evening. On the basis of evidence recovered from their mobile phones, it was derived the youths had allegedly enticed the women posing as Hindu.The men and the women were intercepted by activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal as they were boarding Delhi-bound Kaifiyaat Express around 4 pm. GRP, RPF and Sidhari police reached the spot and took the youths and women to Sidhari police station for questioning. Terming the act as ‘love jehad’, the saffron activists reached Sidhari police station and stayed there until FIR was lodged.Azamgarh SP Anil Kumar said on Thursday that joint team of Sidhari police, Govt Railway Police and Railway Protection Force intercepted Mahmood Alam (30) and Nainuddin (35) of Gorakhpur as they were about to board train to Delhi at Azamgarh railway station. After ascertaining identity of both girls, their family members were called. During investigation, police recovered evidence from their mobile phones, including some videos.Following detailed investigation, police lodged FIR on charges of cheating and under sections of UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act and IT Act.Alam and Nainuddin told police that they were taking the girls to Delhi, from where they planned to go to Ajmer Sharif. They also confessed to concealing their Muslim identity to the women and filming intimate videos to blackmail the girls. Further investigation in the case was in progress, said officials.
