Royapuram inspector shifted out; kept without new posting
Royapuram police inspector Chidambara Bharathi was transferred to Vacancy Reserve (VR) without a posting after a controversy erupted over his handling of a protest staged by a 27-year-old woman at a marriage hall in Royapuram, police sources said.

Chennai: Royapuram police inspector Chidambara Bharathi, who was caught on video assaulting a man and then arguing with TVK MLA K V Vijay Damu, has been shifted out of the station without any new posting.The transfer follows allegations that the inspector acted in a biased manner while intervening in a protest by a woman. While a wedding reception was underway on Tuesday outside Ramzan Hall on West Madha Church Street in Royapuram, the woman, accompanied by her relatives, attempted to stop the marriage, alleging that the groom, Syed Ibrahim of Choolaimedu, had been in a relationship with her and had cheated her.During the protest, inspector Bharathi slapped one of her supporters, and the video went viral on social media. He was also seen arguing with MLA Vijay Damu at the venue.Police sources said complaints related to disputes between the woman and Syed Ibrahim were previously registered at the Sholinganallur and Arumbakkam police stations. Further inquiry is underway.
