Bengaluru: In a swift and brazen theft carried out in daylight, gold and silver ornaments and cash were stolen from a jewellery shop in Banashankari when the owner went to relieve himself in a toilet at a nearby anganwadi, leaving the shop open.According to the complaint filed by N Manjunath, 52, a resident of Mookambikanagar, the incident happened on April 13. The theft at his shop named Siddhartha Silver Ornaments took place within a matter of minutes.Manjunath said he stepped out of the shop at 3.22pm and returned at 3.25pm. He was shocked to find that an unknown person had entered the shop and was stealing valuables from the showcase.“As soon as he saw me, he ran out of my shop and went to a scooter on which two of his associates were waiting with the engine running. As I rushed towards the scooter, they sped away,” Manjunath said.“The stolen items include two packets of silver chains weighing around 50 grams, three cards of gold nose pins weighing about 10 grams, and Rs 3,000 in cash. The value of the stolen jewellery is around Rs 1.8 lakh,” he said.Manjunath said the CCTV camera in his shop had recorded images of the thief as well as of his two associates waiting nearby on the scooter.Police said they had registered a case under BNS Section 305 (theft). “We have some clues about the three miscreants, as they had not covered their faces, and we have also obtained the scooter registration number from the CCTV footage,” a police officer said.MSID:: 130282584 413 |
