Ghaziabad: Two elderly men who had spent years living away from their families were found dead in a rented flat in DLF Colony. The bodies of Nem Singh (60) and Rakesh Sharma (75) were discovered in separate rooms on Friday morning after neighbours, alarmed by a foul smell and no movement from the flat for three days, alerted police.Police said there were no injury marks on either body, and prima facie the deaths appear to be due to natural causes. The bodies were sent for autopsy, which will determine the exact cause of death.Dhawal Jaiswal, DCP (trans-Hindon and city), said police received information around 9.30am on Friday about foul smell coming from flat BW NS T2 near Bhagat Singh Chowk. The flat belongs to Mukesh Nandan, a Gurgaon resident.“Both elderly men had been living there as tenants for the past two years. Nem Singh, a resident of New Seema Puri in Delhi, was found dead in one room, while Rakesh Sharma, originally from Kanti Nagar, was found lying dead on a bed in another room. The bodies appeared to be 2 to 3 days old,” Jaiswal said.Police recovered their Aadhaar cards from the flat and sent teams to the addresses listed on them, but no family members were found there.According to ACP Atul Singh, both men had worked as auto drivers. With age catching up, Sharma had rented out his auto to Singh, who drove it and also looked after him. Sharma had been unwell for a long time and his condition had worsened in recent days.“Sharma was unable to get out of bed and could not speak. We could not immediately establish the nature of his illness or where he was being treated. Nem Singh was addicted to alcohol. Some liquor bottles were found in the flat, but there were no injury marks on either body,” the ACP said.He added that further action would depend on the autopsy report and any written complaint from relatives.Police said both men had been living separately from their families for nearly two decades. Sharma had been living alone in DLF Colony for around 20 years. Singh’s wife died 18 years ago, after which he left home after entrusting his son to his elder brother. Police are still trying to trace their families.
