Varanasi: In a significant development, the UP govt has planned to transform unused spaces under flyovers into useful and attractive facilities. As part of the plan, a modern gaming and vending zone will be developed under the flyover in Tarna area on Airport Road, which will not only provide city residents with new entertainment facilities but will also create employment opportunities for the locals.Smart City chief general manager Amarendra Tiwari said that the proposed gaming zone will feature various indoor sports facilities including indoor badminton courts, pickleball and skating. This will provide youth and children the opportunity to play sports in a safe and organised environment. He further said that a vending zone will also be created here, where space will be allocated to local vendors and people can relish various types of cuisines.The initiative will open new livelihood avenues for small traders and street vendors. The govt’s initiative will serve as a unique example of better utilisation of urban resources, and will also be a positive step towards inclusive development, employment generation and improving the standard of living of citizens, Tiwari added.Parking facilities will also be developed under the flyover, which will help improve traffic management. Generally, spaces under flyovers remain neglected and unused, but through this plan, these areas will be beautified and transformed into centres of social and economic activity, said the official.
