Truck driver killed after collision on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway

Gurgaon: A truck driver was killed and his companion injured after two heavy vehicles collided on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-48) near Rathiwas turn in Bilaspur in the early hours of Sunday, police said.The accident took place around 4 am when Ram Singh, a truck driver from Kotputli in Rajasthan, was travelling towards his hometown in truck along with Mahendra Kumar Saini, a storeman employed at a cement plant in Delhi’s Sonia Vihar area.According to Mahendra’s complaint, he had boarded the truck after Ram Singh agreed to drop him to Kotputli. When the vehicle reached near Rathiwas turn, where flyover construction work was underway, another truck was being driven rashly and at high speed.Mahendra alleged that the truck ahead repeatedly applied brakes before suddenly stopping, causing Ram Singh’s vehicle to ram into it from behind. The impact left Mahendra with a head injury, while Ram Singh suffered severe injuries to his chest and legs. The driver of the other truck allegedly fled the spot after the collision.Both victims were taken to a nearby private hospital by ambulance, where doctors declared Ram Singh dead during treatment. Mahendra later declined medico-legal examination and left the hospital after submitting a written statement, police said.Based on the complaint, Bilaspur police registered a case under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the BNS against the unidentified truck driver. Police said efforts are underway to trace the accused.
