Focus on houses with bulk voters in pre-SIR mapping: BJP

Hyderabad: The BJP has expressed concern over the pre-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) mapping exercise and sought special focus on Balapur and other areas, alleging that a large number of Rohingya were living there illegally and that their names should be removed from the electoral rolls after verification.‘Check houses with 20 to 30 voters’BJP chief N Ramchander Rao said the party’s main concern during the pre-SIR mapping was residential areas where a large number of voters were registered at a single address or in one building. “Our main concern is residential areas where, in one address or building, there are more than 20 to 30 voters. They should be checked and verified, and if found fake, should be removed,” he said.He also said shifted and transferred voters who continued to remain on the voter list should be identified and removed. “Dead voters should be excluded in SIR,” he said.No special drive on Rohingyas: CEORamchander said another concern was the alleged enrolment of Rohingyas as voters in Balapur. “There is a need for special focus and they shall be removed. BLOs shall be given protection and freedom to find them out,” he said. The BJP also said polling booths should be located within the vicinity of voters, especially in villas, gated communities and large residential complexes. Ramchander said clubhouses in such complexes could be considered for polling booths so that voters do not have to travel far.He said the party would represent to the Election Commission if anything went wrong during the actual SIR process. “We have found in Old City that BLAs were given passwords. BJP BLAs were not allowed wherever they were able to go. These are a few things that have come to the fore,” he said.Responding to the BJP’s concerns, CEO C Sudharshan Reddy said, “There is no special drive on Rohingyas and officials will conduct the mapping and SIR as per the rules and in a fair and transparent manner.”
