Hisar: The Adampur panchayat election results on Tuesday emerged as the first major setback for the BJP amid the controversy involving Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma and senior BJP leader Kuldeep Bishnoi. In a boost for Bishnoi’s supporters, Jagatpat Agarwal—son of former sarpanch, the late Subhash Agarwal—won the poll, while BJP-supported candidate Mohit Goyal, nephew of former minister Dr Kamal Gupta, finished third. The BJP is battling internal unease over Sharma’s recent remarks that Bishnoi’s father “Bhajan Lal and Congress leader Chandramohan won previous elections through hooliganism.” Bishnoi had demanded disciplinary action against Sharma. The controversy escalated when BJP state president Mohan Lal Badoli spoke of issuing a notice to Bishnoi, though he later hinted at resolving the matter through dialogue. In the election, Agarwal secured 2,543 votes, and Jagdish Bhadu got 1,894 votes. Despite an aggressive campaign by senior party leaders, the BJP-backed Goyal managed only 840 votes.
