Chandigarh: The UT administration has constituted a committee to review “need-based changes” made to Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) houses, affecting over 65,000 units across the city.Formed under the chairmanship of the CHB CEO on directions of the board chairman, the committee has been asked to submit its report within two weeks.Officials said many allottees have carried out additional constructions, terming them “need-based changes”, while the administration treats several of these as building violations.Although the 2023 need-based changes policy was implemented recently, residents claim it has not addressed their concerns. The issue gained traction after the CHB demolished unauthorised extensions in Sectors 41 and 45, triggering protests and political reactions. The committee will examine which modifications can be regularised. While allottees are demanding a one-time settlement, sources indicated that only select changes may be recommended for approval.
