Jaisalmer: A married woman allegedly died by suicide in Dhakon ki Dhani village under the Sedwa police station area of Barmer district Wednesday.The deceased was identified as Indira Devi (24), a resident of Barmer district. Family members said that three years ago she got married to her husband Madan, who worked as a photographer.According to the information received by the police, the woman had gone to her room after dinner Tuesday night but did not come out the next morning. Following this, relatives grew suspicious and forced open the door and found her hanging. Police reached the spot after being informed, and the body was later taken to the mortuary after her maternal family arrived.Indira’s uncle Veerdaram alleged that she was frequently harassed by her in-laws for dowry, adding that they had even tried to counsel the in-laws. “We were informed in the morning that she was not opening the door. When we reached there, police were already present and she was found hanging,” he said.Based on a complaint by her maternal family, police have registered a case of dowry harassment against her husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law, and begun an investigation.Sedwa SHO Prabhuram said a suicide note was recovered from the spot and the matter is being probed by Chauhtan DSP Jetharam.
