Rajkot: A dispute over an ancestral structure in Babra taluka of Amreli district led to the killing of a 31-year-old man on Thursday.Bharat Ugrajiya, originally from Fuljar village in Rajkot district and living in Rangpar, Morbi, was attacked and his throat was slit in the Kariyana-Jivapar Road area.Police suspect the murder is linked to a feud over the removal of pillars of an ancestral structure locally known as “Surapura”.According to the complaint filed by his wife, Asha Ugrajiya, at Babra police station, Bharat had repeatedly been threatened by his in-laws, who suspected he had a role in the removal of the structure’s pillars. He was also allegedly warned not to visit Babra.On Thursday, Bharat was called to Babra on the pretext of resolving the dispute. Asha said he left Morbi around 2pm and she received information around 6pm that he had been attacked near the Mamadev Temple on Jivapar Road.He was rushed to Babra Govt Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police said he had suffered a slit throat and head wounds from sharp weapons.Asha accused six relatives — Kiran Jiliya, Jagdish Jiliya, Mahesh Jiliya, Paresh Jiliya, Rohit Jiliya and Mayur Jiliya — along with three or four unidentified persons, alleging that the attack was part of a planned conspiracy.The investigating officer, R R Parmar, said Bharat was a labourer and is survived by a son and two daughters.Police said that all six named accused were arrested within hours of the killing, and the weapon used in the crime has also been recovered.A case alleging murder and criminal conspiracy was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
