Chennai: After a video showing Vijay Dhamu, a TVK candidate elected from Royapuram, cutting a cake with a machete during a public celebration went viral on social media, a complaint was filed on Wednesday with the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office seeking legal action. The complaint was submitted by G G Siva, 36, of Pulianthope. In his petition, Sivakumar said Dhamu participated in a birthday celebration where a cake was cut with a machete in public view. He also named ‘Loyola Mani’ and other party functionaries in connection with the event. The complainant said videos and media reports showed the weapon being used despite objections raised at the venue. He added that the police had previously registered cases against other individuals involved in similar celebrations using machetes and other weapons in public places. “Such acts can create fear among the public and disturb peace,” the complaint said, adding, “It sets a wrong example when elected representatives and political functionaries engage in such activities.” Police officials said they are verifying the authenticity of the videos and gathering details about the celebration. Further inquiry is underway.
