BJP to hold protest against price hikes in Bengaluru on Nov 11

Bengaluru: BJP will stage a day-long protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Nov 11, demanding the rollback of recent hikes in prices of milk, curd, ghee and bus tickets, party state president BY Vijayendra announced Sunday. The protest will be held from 10am to 6pm, and will see the participation of BJP MLAs, MPs, MLCs and state office-bearers. The party will subsequently organise marches at district headquarters and protests in every assembly constituency, he said.Accusing the Congress govt of repeatedly burdening people with price hikes, Vijayendra said its three-year tenure had seen increases in petrol and diesel taxes, liquor prices, water tariffs, wildlife safari tickets and fees for services at govt hospitals.Questioning the recent hike, he said cost of milk has been increased by Rs 8 per litre, while various milk products have become costlier by Rs 12 to Rs 13. Ghee price has increased by Rs 180 per kg and curd by Rs 14, he claimed. He said the govt should bear the additional Rs 7 per litre incentive paid to dairy farmers instead of transferring the burden to consumers.Vijayendra also criticised the bus fare hike, claiming commuters in some areas would face increases of 70-80%. He alleged that unpaid dues under the Shakti scheme had pushed transport corporations into financial distress, affecting bus services, particularly in rural areas.Questioning the govt’s appeal to private companies to adopt 2,000 govt schools, he said dependence on corporate social responsibility funds reflected its failure to provide adequate resources for education and development.
