Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Anganwadi Workers’ and Helpers’ Association (CITU) adopted a resolution to inform govt through the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) that if the pending salaries for the past three months are not released within a week, all anganwadi workers in the district will launch an agitation. Ravikala, district president of the association, said a resolution was adopted at the district committee meeting held at BC Road Rickshaw Bhavan on Saturday. She said both the central and the state govts have failed to realise how poor anganwadi workers and helpers are, considering they are expected to sustain even when they are not paid a minimum living wage. Additionally, the association decided that anganwadi workers should participate in large numbers in the working-class ‘Delhi Chalo’ rally scheduled for Dec 1, hold a district convention of anganwadi workers in Mangaluru on Dec 12, and send eight delegates to attend the three-day state conference of the Anganwadi Workers’ Union (CITU) to be held from Dec 23 to 25.
