Congress accuses BJP of land, job, and voter fraud in Goa

Margao: State Congress president Girish Chodankar on Thursday accused BJP govt of systematic exploitation of Goa through what he termed ‘Zameen chori, paisa chori, naukri chori, MLA chori and vote chori’, in a presentation at the party headquarters in Panaji. On land, Chodankar alleged about 5 crore sqm had been opened up for development and conversion since 2018, citing hill cutting at Reis Magos, Morjim and Bambolim. He alleged that BJP and MGP members and their family firms bought around 10.55 lakh sqm following amendments to Sections 16B, 17(2) and 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act.Citing election affidavits, he alleged the CM’s family wealth had grown substantially, while state debt works out to Rs 8.8 lakh per family. On jobs, he said that of 10,000 posts promised in 2021, only 2,500 were filled through Staff Selection Commission, against about 22,000 vacancies. He said there should be a judicial or SIT probe into alleged cash-for-jobs cases involving Rs 18.20 crore. He said 13 of the 22 MLAs who defected to BJP between 2016 and 2022 were rewarded with ministerial or other posts. On SIR, Chodankar flagged the deletion of 1,39,634 names, roughly one in eight voters, and 78 Form 7 objections filed in a single day in Navelim.Congress called for transparent investigations and accountability.
