Why is piped gas costlier in Gujarat than Rajasthan, questions Congress

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress on Wednesday questioned the disparity in piped natural gas (PNG) prices across cities, alleging that consumers in Gujarat were paying more for domestic cooking gas than their counterparts in neighbouring Rajasthan, even when the suppliers were the same companies.Addressing a news conference at the GPCC headquarters, spokesperson Parthivrajsinh Kathavadia said Adani Gas charged consumers in Ahmedabad Rs 1,473.90 per million British thermal units (MMBTU), while its customers in Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Bhilwara in Rajasthan paid Rs 1,258.88 per MMBTU — a difference of nearly Rs 215. He also cited price differences within cities and towns in Gujarat.Kathavadia added that Gujarat Energy, formerly known as Gujarat Gas, charged its Gujarat consumers Rs 1,377.04 per MMBTU, compared with Rs 1,321 per MMBTU for customers in Rajasthan — a difference of Rs 56 per MMBTU.“Why should Gujarat consumers pay more than those in Rajasthan?” he asked, demanding that the state govt intervene and take up the issue with gas distribution companies to ensure uniform pricing across cities.
