CHANDIGARH: Union home and cooperation minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the Shaheed Smarak (war memorial) in Ambala on November 5 and address a public rally at Gandhi Ground. Ahead of his visit, Haryana BJP president Dr Archana Gupta on Monday reviewed preparations at a meeting with party office-bearers and workers at the PWD Rest House in Ambala Cantonment.Gupta subsequently inspected Gandhi Ground along with district administration officials and party leaders to assess arrangements for the public meeting. She reviewed preparations related to stage construction, seating, traffic management, parking, security, drinking water and other essential facilities, stressing that all arrangements should be completed within the stipulated time.Describing November 5 as a significant occasion for Haryana and the country, Gupta said the memorial, built on the historic land of Ambala, would symbolise the nation’s gratitude towards countless unsung freedom fighters who laid down their lives during the 1857 revolt. She said the memorial was dedicated to the courage, sacrifice and struggle of those freedom fighters whose contributions had not received adequate recognition in history. Its inauguration by Shah would be a matter of pride for the entire state, she added.Gupta said the initiative was in keeping with the commitment of the Narendra Modi government to give due recognition to the contributions of all freedom fighters and unsung heroes of the country’s independence movement. The memorial would also serve as an important medium to familiarise future generations with the freedom struggle and inspire young people through the stories of revolutionary leaders, their courage and supreme sacrifice, she said.Calling upon BJP workers to ensure wider public participation, Gupta directed party functionaries to take information about the event to people across the region.Cabinet minister Anil Vij, former minister Aseem Goel, BJP state general secretary Satyaprakash Jarawata, district president Mandeep Rana, MP Banto Kataria, deputy commissioner Sachin Gupta and superintendent of police Ajit Singh Shekhawat were among those present at the meeting and inspection.
