Jaipur: Passengers travelling from Jaipur during the Diwali rush will have to board sleeper and other private buses at designated points on the city’s outskirts after traffic police shifted operations there from Nov 3 to 9.The move has been made to ease traffic congestion within the city, particularly around the Sindhi Camp bus stand, said additional DCP (traffic) Hariprasad Somani. The arrangement comes as passenger movement is expected to increase during Dhanteras, Diwali and Govardhan Puja, putting additional pressure on roads around the bus stand.Under the arrangement, buses travelling towards Delhi and Agra will operate from the private bus stand near Bajri Mandi Circle in Transport Nagar. Buses on the Ajmer Road route will operate from Heerapura, while those travelling towards Tonk will operate from below the Purana Bypass cloverleaf. Buses heading towards Sikar will operate from Vidyadhar Nagar Stadium. The change, however, could mean a longer and more expensive journey for passengers, especially those travelling from areas on the other side of the city. Passengers from Mansarovar, Sanganer, Pratap Nagar, Jawahar Nagar and the walled city could spend between Rs 400 and Rs 500 on a cab to reach some of the new boarding points, depending on the distance.Private bus operators have also raised concerns over the arrangement, arguing that Sindhi Camp’s central location makes it easier for passengers to reach their buses. Shifting boarding points outside the city could particularly inconvenience women, elderly passengers and families travelling with children, they said.
