Sangrur: Punjab Gau Sewa Commission vice-chairman Kimti Bhagat on Monday directed that stray cattle roaming on roads be shifted to gaushalas at the earliest. Chairing a meeting with administration officials at the District Administrative Complex, he said roads should be free of stray cattle within four months.He said he had visited the Govt Cattle Pound at Jhaneri village about a month ago and directed officials to resolve issues related to cattle intake. He added that municipal councils were asked to shift stray cattle from urban areas to the Jhaneri facility.He said the number of cattle at the gaushala has risen to 354, but much more needs to be done. He added that the funds collected as “Cow Cess” should be effectively utilised to ensure the efficient functioning of gaushalas. Reiterating the Punjab Govt’s commitment to resolving the issue of gaudhan, he said all efforts were being made by the Commission to ensure proper shelter and care for gaudhan, while also preventing the loss of precious human lives. Bhagat directed that more feeding troughs be constructed at the Government Cattle Pound Gaushala in village Jhaneri, along with proper arrangements for water and fodder. The Panchayat Department was instructed to adopt a cluster-based approach for gaudhan management.He also directed officials to take strict legal action against dairy farms that abandon gaudhan on roads.Appealing to concerned officials and the general public, he urged them to cooperate with the Punjab Gau Sewa Commission and the Punjab Govt in efforts towards gaudhan welfare.On the occasion, he provided detailed information about various laws and rules related to cattle welfare and distributed a booklet on the subject.
