Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant urged scholars to focus their research on Goa, saying the state should be recognised not only for tourism but also for academic institutions, research and innovation.“I want our state equally recognised for its academic institutions, research and innovations. I urge the scholars to let Goa itself be your laboratory. Our coast, rivers and the Western Ghat biodiversity…. our language, culture and our living heritage of the Konkani and Goan traditions,” said Sawant at the inauguration of doctoral programmes at World Peace University-Goa (WPU-Goa), recently.A doctoral degree is not just a qualification but an opportunity to learn, discover new ideas and make a positive difference to society, he said.“Remember, a good researcher does not simply ask what is already known. A good researcher tries to discover what more can be done,” Sawant said.DRDO chairperson Samir Kamat said, “Problems that face the society today cannot be solved by people with expertise only in one domain. You need to solve these problems by forming teams with expertise in different domains.”Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade said, “Goa is one of the highly literate states in India. This is a matter of pride for us. But our journey in education must not stop with literacy and degrees. We must also encourage innovation, research and the ability to find solutions to real problems.”
