Gurgaon: With construction and demolition activities across Delhi-NCR set to face restrictions from Nov 5 over worsening air quality, residents of C Block in Greenwood City fear an unfinished sewer project will leave their main road damaged and unusable. They said excavation has made the stretch dusty and worry that the work may remain incomplete once restrictions begin.Excavation began around a week ago to connect a sewer line to Sector 45, residents said. “We are getting nothing out of this project, but we are the ones suffering,” said Deepak Agarwal, RWA treasurer. They said more than half the road was damaged, and loose soil from excavation could add to dust levels. They also alleged that work had been progressing intermittently.“After Diwali, they will sit on it quietly and we will be left with a road that is neither repaired nor usable. Work happens for a day, then stops for four. Not even 100 metres of pipe has been laid so far. Soil dumped after pipe-laying and rain have made the road slippery; pedestrians cannot walk and vehicles skid. The other day, a school bus was stuck in the pit. The work has not been carried out with proper planning and execution,” Agarwal said.Residents also said excavation had damaged electrical and internet cables. Bhawna Gupta, a resident, said her internet connection was disrupted for five days and restored only a day ago, after repeated complaints.“I couldn’t do my work. The cable for the block’s shared power backup was also cut and has not been repaired. Neither the company nor the contractor has taken responsibility. Over half the road is broken, and dust is everywhere,” Gupta said. She added that the mess was especially embarrassing as relatives and guests had started arriving for the festival.Meanwhile, the MCG official concerned could not be reached for comment.
