Hisar: A Hisar sessions court has sentenced a 55-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering a fellow labourer following a dispute over wages in May 2023. Sessions Judge Alka Malik also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Ramniwas, a resident of Umra village, with an additional year in prison in case of default.According to the prosecution, the murder took place on the night of May 30–31, 2023, at a dhani in Umra. The victim, Ishwar, worked as a labourer and had also worked with Ramniwas. The two had reportedly fallen out over payment for work. Court records stated that Ishwar was assaulted with a stick and sustained multiple injuries. His body was found the next day on a cot inside a room at Ramniwas’s dhani.A medical board documented nine injuries on the body and marks on the neck. Ramniwas denied involvement, claiming he was in another village when the crime occurred. The court rejected the alibi, holding that the circumstantial evidence formed a sufficient chain to establish his guilt and convicted him.The court directed that 90% of the fine be paid to Ishwar’s family and asked the District Legal Services Authority, Hisar, to take necessary steps to assess and provide compensation to the victim’s dependants.
