Fire at Tata vendor unit in Sanand GIDC; no casualties

Ahmedabad: A major fire broke out at a Tata vendor company in the Sanand GIDC area on Sunday afternoon, sending thick plumes of black smoke billowing across the industrial belt. While no injuries were reported, several sections of the plant were gutted, officials said.An officer of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) said the blaze was reported around 1.30pm, with the initial response coming from Tata’s in-house fire service, followed by teams from the Sanand civic body. As the fire intensified and proved difficult to contain, the Ahmedabad fire brigade was alerted.“Four teams comprising nearly 30 personnel were rushed to the spot. The firefighting operation continued till late Sunday evening,” the officer said. In total, 10 fire tenders were deployed to bring the flames under control.The officer added that the fire spread rapidly, engulfing multiple divisions of the plant within a short span. However, all personnel working inside were safely evacuated by the company’s internal teams before the situation escalated. A team of forensic experts has been called in to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. Though there were no casualties, preliminary inputs suggest significant damage to property.Confirming the incident, a spokesperson of Tata AutoComp Systems Limited said, “A minor fire at our warehouse was promptly contained by trained response teams, with no injuries. The incident remained isolated from the main shop floor, and operations continued without disruption. We are supporting authorities as they review the cause, while our safety protocols and personnel welfare remain paramount.”
