Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Monday condemned Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s family, alleging that Congress leaders were resorting to derogatory language out of frustration over their inability to win elections.Addressing a news conference at the state BJP office, Rao termed Kharge’s reported remarks about Modi’s father at a rally in Patna despicable. He alleged that Congress leaders were unable to accept the rise of an ordinary chaiwala to the country’s highest political office and were abandoning political decorum after remaining out of power for over 12 years.Rao defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that Congress leaders were spreading misinformation despite the process being conducted transparently. Challenging chief minister A Revanth Reddy, he asked him to identify eligible voters whose names had been illegally deleted in his native village, Kondareddypally.Citing figures related to electoral roll verification, Rao said deletions involved deceased, absent, permanently shifted and duplicate voters. He accused Congress leaders of making allegations against the Election Commission without evidence.Rao also criticised Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to Delhi for a rally on Nov 1, alleging that the chief minister was neglecting the state’s water crisis. He claimed nearly 330 of over 600 mandals were facing rainfall deficiency and that only about 500 of 6,000 tanks across Telangana retained water. He also alleged that Hyderabad depended on around 8,000 water tankers daily.Rao said the BJP would burn effigies of Congress in Hyderabad and district headquarters in protest against Kharge’s remarks. He announced a padayatra on Nov 2 under the slogan ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arachakata Hatao’, meaning ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’. Union home minister Amit Shah would participate in the march, he said.
