1,100 CCTV cameras scanned, but no clue in Rs 2.5cr watch heist

Jaipur: Twenty-four days after 251 luxury watches worth around Rs 2.5 crore were stolen from a showroom on Tonk Road on Oct 1, police have no information about the whereabouts of the suspects.Investigators suspected the involvement of the Ghodasan gang from Bihar and had deployed multiple teams across states, including near the Nepal border, to trace the suspects but did not find any clues.Police also questioned several people and pursued leads based on the suspects’ movements, but sources admitted that they also failed. The gang allegedly fled towards Sahakar Marg in an autorickshaw after the theft. Police have examined CCTV footage from nearly 1,100 cameras, including footage from areas around Sindhi Camp and the railway station, but have not been able to establish the suspects’ movements through these locations. Teams are now examining routes leading out of Jaipur.Police suspect the gang carried out detailed reconnaissance before the theft. The showroom relied primarily on CCTV cameras for security. During the break-in, the thieves allegedly mistook a music system for the digital video recorder (DVR) and took it away. They left behind 10-15 watches belonging to other brands.Investigators are also examining previous luxury watch thefts for possible links. In 2017, around 700 were stolen from a showroom in Connaught Place, New Delhi. In 2024, more than 600 watches worth around Rs 3 crore were stolen in Ghaziabad.Police are gathering information about suspects linked to these cases and two other thefts involving hundreds of luxury watches in Delhi. However, the investigation into the Jaipur heist has so far failed to establish a direct link or identify the whereabouts of the stolen watches.
