Activists ‘rescue’ 2 women in Sribhumi; youth questioned over identity concealment

Silchar: Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists claimed to have rescued two women in Chandkhira village and handed them, along with a 27-year-old man, to the police. The incident occurred on Friday evening under Patharkandi police station in Sribhumi district. The women, from Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh, were allegedly brought to the village by Muzakkir Sheikh, who reportedly introduced himself as Rahul while working with them in Bengaluru.Sources said the activists reached Sheikh’s residence after learning the women were there. They later informed police and handed over all three to officers who arrived at the spot.Activists alleged that Sheikh concealed his religious identity and was planning to marry one of the women on Saturday. Police have not verified the allegations or established why the women accompanied him to Sribhumi.“We refrained from intensifying our agitation following the police officer’s assurance that stringent action would be taken,” a Bajrang Dal activist said.A police officer said questioning was underway to establish the facts, the youth’s identity and his relationship with the women. The incident followed the arrest of a 22-year-old man for allegedly holding a 13-year-old girl captive for three days. The girl was rescued on Thursday. An angry mob later set the accused’s house ablaze; the fire spread to an adjoining house.
