Ludhiana: The Dhandari Industrial Welfare Association has written to top district, civic, and police officials demanding urgent intervention to fix worsening traffic congestion, illegal roadside encroachments, haphazard parking, and poor sanitation across the city.In a representation to local MLAs, the deputy commissioner, municipal corporation commissioner, and police commissioner, association president Satnam Singh Makkar highlighted that prolonged jams are severely impacting daily life, businesses, and commuter movement. The association singled out severe bottlenecks at the bridge leading from Dholewal toward Atam Nagar, the adjoining national highway underpass, and the stretch connecting Gill Road to Arora Palace, where evening traffic routinely grinds to a halt.To resolve these issues, the industrial body demanded a detailed assessment of traffic hotspots, special management measures during peak hours, and long-term infrastructure planning over temporary quick fixes. The letter also flagged widespread encroachments by street vendors and unauthorised parking that choke road space. It urged officials to clear illegal stalls while creating designated vending zones to protect vendors’ livelihoods without obstructing traffic.Additionally, the association demanded strict enforcement of heavy-vehicle entry restrictions, better coordination between the traffic police and the MC’s tehbazari wing, and action against vendors who dump rotten waste on roadsides at night.Questioning the lack of basic civic amenities, the association noted that citizens paying road taxes and other govt levies are entitled to motorable roads, smooth traffic flow, and clean surroundings.
