What is the AgriGold scam?

The AgriGold scam was a multi-state financial fraud that allegedly defrauded around 32 lakh investors of an estimated Rs 6,380 crore. The group collected public deposits by promising lucrative returns or land plots at heavily discounted rates upon maturity. It operated through a vast network of commission agents across southern and central India, primarily in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. When maturity payouts began failing in late 2014, investors and agents filed police complaints across multiple states, triggering raids and the eventual arrest of key management personnel.
