Ludhiana: The performance of Indian badminton team at the Thomas Cup 2026, held in Denmark from April 24 to May 3, has brought cheers to the city as Ludhiana lad Dhruv Kapila was part of the Indian squad. Indian men’s team for India secured bronze medal in the championship with a score of 3-0 against Chinese Taipei. The Thomas cup 2026 squad includes various talented players including Lakshay Sen, Ayush Shetty, Kidambhi Srikanth, Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila as well, an international badminton player hailing from Ludhiana city . Dhruv’s journey began when he was nine years old at a badminton academy in Ludhiana, as his first coach Anand Tiwari, from Ludhiana, while talking to the TOI said,”Dhruv was just nine years old when he started practising for the game and now he is one of the best athletes in the badminton world representing India at global level. He was very sincere about the game in terms the beginning stages and after 13 years of age, he moved to Hyderabad to prepare in best possible way for him.” Dhruv‘s father, Gagan Kapila, said,” He left the home for his passion for badminton in the early teenage, i feel he is with us all the time because of his continuous achievements. I give all the credit for his journey to god, not just our family or city, he has made the country proud.”Dhruv’s family members expressed that, he is always occupied with training camps and his championships at different locations around the world but whenever he comes back home even for a short time, it is the best thing for the family.Dhruv Kapila is currently at the world rank 21 among the badminton players as per the BWF world rankings. He has a target of being in the world’s top 10 players and his ultimate goal of life is to secure a medal in the Olympics. Dhruv has achieved various national and international trophies and medals throughout his journey in the world of badminton.
