Prison escapee caught, 7 staffers suspended in TN
Sudeep Bogati, a 21-year-old Nepalese national, escaped from Puzhal prison in Chennai during a guard change

CHENNAI: Nepalese national Sudeep Bogati’s daring escape from a high-security central prison at Puzhal, Chennai, can beat any jailbreak movie hands down.Aged 21 years, lean and small built, Bogati synced his escape bid with the 10-minute change of guards at the watch tower. On Tuesday night, he pulled out solar power cables fixed along the perimeter wall and used them to scale the 23ft prison wall.As there was heavy rain, solar-powered electric fencing got snapped somewhere, allowing him to scale the wall without getting electrocuted. As he was just 45kg and 5.1ft tall, Bogati was able to manoeuvre his way along the cables, sources said. However, when he leapt off the wall, he suffered a hip injury and lay unconscious for nearly an hour before gathering himself up and fleeing the area. By the time prison personnel realised that he had escaped and started combing the area, Bogati had reached Padi. However, Thursday morning he was traced to a tea shop and arrested. Bogati told police he was planning to escape to Nepal. Arrested by JJ Nagar police in Aug in a theft case, he had been staying in Kalaivani Nagar in Padi and working at an electrical shop before his arrest.DGP (prisons) Sandeep Rai Rathore inspected the prison premises Thursday.
