Bengaluru: A city-based street vendors’ union has written to chief minister Siddaramiah with the demand for increased compensation and rehabilitation efforts for street vendors who died when the wall of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital collpased on Wednesday.Karnataka PragatiPara Beedhi Vyaparigala Sangha Sunday demanded that the compensation for those who lost their lives be increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.“Many of the injured vendors are expected to take several months to recover and resume their livelihoods,” the union reasoned for seeking a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each injured person. It also urged the govt to hold mmediate consultations with street vendors to identify and allocate safe and viable vending spaces to them.“Several vendors have also suffered loss of goods and working capital due to the incident. The state govt and GBA must urgently convene a meeting to discuss ill effects of climate change on informal workers such as street vendors, gig and platform workers, pourakarmikas and others,” the union said.MSID:: 130734510 413 |
