Guwahati: Police arrested the boyfriend of a 30-year-old woman whose partially decomposed body was found in an apartment in Guwahati’s Hengerabari area on Oct 20.A local court remanded the accused, Biswanath Das, to five days’ police custody, police said on Thursday.A Dispur police officer said the woman, identified as Dolly Kashyap, was found dead inside the apartment. Preliminary investigation suggests she may have died by suicide several days before her body was recovered.A note found near the body mentioned Das’s name. He was arrested after preliminary investigation and interrogation, the officer said.Das was the state operations manager of an insurance company where Kashyap also worked.The officer said preliminary findings suggest that “physical and psychological torture may have preceded the woman’s death.”Kashyap, who hailed from Sualkuchi in Kamrup district, is suspected to have died by suicide, though police are investigating the circumstances of her death. No visible injury marks were found on her body, police said.The case came to light after the apartment owner visited Kashyap’s flat but received no response. He alerted police after noticing a foul smell coming from inside.Kashyap’s family members said she was supposed to return to Sualkuchi last Sunday for Durga Puja but could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. They last spoke to her on Saturday.
