Zira alleges threat to life, seeks probe into gunman’s links after opium recovery
Former Zira MLA Kulbir Singh Zira

Ferozepur: Former Zira MLA and Ferozepur district Congress chief Kulbir Singh Zira has accused the Punjab govt and police of failing to address his security concerns and apprehended that he could be framed in a false case after opium was reportedly recovered from his gunman.Zira was reacting to an Oct 20 social media post by AAP media wing in-charge Baltej Singh Pannu about the recovery. He questioned the attempt to view the incident through a political lens and called for an impartial investigation.“I am prepared to undergo a dope test any time. If any questions are raised, they should be addressed not through rhetoric, but through an impartial investigation based on facts,” he said.Explaining the deployment of his security personnel, Zira said assistant sub-inspector Resham Singh, previously assigned to him, was on medical leave, and constable Amarjit Singh had been posted as a temporary replacement a few days earlier. He said issues concerning the performance of duties arose after the new personnel arrived and that he had brought them to the notice of police officials, including ASI Inderjit Singh at the Ferozepur SSP office.Zira said he had apprised lower courts and the Punjab and Haryana high court of threats he allegedly faced from gangsters. Questioning the conduct of the state govt and Ferozepur SSP, he expressed apprehension about his safety. He urged the Punjab DGP to deploy experienced and trustworthy personnel from the security wing instead of merely rotating district-level staff. He also sought a legal investigation into the gunman’s phone records and associations.
