RTDC again tries to lease out Chaura Rasta tourist facility centre

Jaipur: Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) is preparing to make another attempt to lease its Tourist Facility Centre (TFC) at Chaura Rasta in the Walled City, significantly reducing the reserve premium after three earlier attempts failed to attract bidders.RTDC took possession of the two-storeyed heritage building from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) earlier this year and is now seeking a private operator to develop and manage the property as a tourism and hospitality hub. The proposed project includes setting up a resto-bar, a Rajasthani art and craft shopping emporium, tourist information services and a foreign currency exchange facility, etc.According to RTDC officials, the corporation aims to transform the 275-square-metre property from a conventional tourist information centre into a commercially viable destination catering to domestic and international visitors. The move assumes significance as Chaura Rasta is in the heart of Jaipur’s historic core, close to major tourist attractions and traditional markets. The corporation first floated a tender in July 2025 with a base annual fee of about Rs 2.06 crore, equivalent to nearly Rs 17.6 lakh per month, for a five-year operation and management contract. The project value was estimated at Rs 12.5 crore over five years. However, no bids were received.RTDC subsequently lowered the reserve premium to around Rs 10 lakh per month, but the second and third attempts also failed to generate interest.Following a recent review by senior state govt officials, including discussions at the chief secretary level, RTDC has decided to further reduce the reserve premium to Rs 7.30 lakh per month. Officials said a fresh tender is expected to be issued within days and expressed confidence that the revised terms would make the project more attractive to private investors. The proposed redevelopment is part of the corporation’s effort to enhance tourism infrastructure and create sustainable revenue-generating assets.
