Bengaluru: Less than a week after repairing potholes on MH Marigowda Road in front of Nimhans, Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) has begun preparations to resurface the entire stretch. The corporation has milled the road surface ahead of the resurfacing work. The stretch has been plagued by potholes and multiple patches, making the ride difficult for commuters, particularly patients and visitors travelling to Nimhans and Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology.A senior BCCC official told TOI that the 2.8km stretch from Lalbagh Gate (KH Double Road junction) to Dairy Circle is being resurfaced at a cost of around Rs 5 crore. “The stretch between Lalbagh and Siddapura Junction has already been resurfaced. The plan was to resurface the remaining stretch in about 10 days. However, recent rain and a shortage of labour during the festive season may delay the work slightly,” the official said. The official said the jet patcher was used as a temporary measure after a leaking water pipe caused significant erosion of the road surface.BCCC began using jet patchers to fill potholes on Sept 11, following a demonstration near MS Building in the presence of Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda.According to corporation data, 190 potholes were repaired using the machines between Sept 11 and Oct 10. Chickpet division accounted for the highest number of repairs at 87, followed by Shantinagar with 50, Shivajinagar with 42 and CV Raman Nagar with 11.GBA plans to deploy five jet-patcher machines by Sept 2027 to repair an estimated 14,041sqm of road surface at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. The estimated repair cost is Rs 1,448 per sqm.So far, 3,545sqm of road surface has been repaired, accounting for around 25% of the target.
