Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) are jointly planning green mobility corridors along GT Road, from Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) metro station to NH-9. Teams from both agencies have conducted a joint survey and plan to widen the two-lane Thakurdwara flyover to four lanes. Additionally, a double-decker flyover is also planned on NH-9 to bypass the existing road overbridge (ROB) and Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME), providing seamless connectivity to Noida.“GDA and NHAI are working on possibly making the flyover four-laned by adding a lane on each side. We are also looking into the possibility of constructing a double decker elevated road over DME near Lal Kuan,” GDA vice chairperson Nand Kishor Kalal said.Kalal said the plan is still in a nascent phase and a meeting will be convened with the NHAI, UPSIDA, PVVNL and GMC soon for it to progress further. As per the initial plans, the new lanes will start from the PWD Guest House and extend up to 3km till Bhatia Mod. A 2km elevated road is already under construction from Ramlila Maidan, Ghantaghar, to Bhatia Mod.

The GT Road stretch from Thakurdwara flyover to Lal Kuan is around 9.4km long, and an elevated road and double-decker flyover here would provide seamless connectivity through the old city up to Noida and Aligarh.GDA will construct a 2km-long, four-lane elevated road from Ramlila Maidan, Ghantaghar, to Bhatia Mod. The project is estimated to cost Rs 200 crore, which will be covered under the Urban Challenge Fund sanctioned by the state govt. The area is notorious for traffic jams, which also contribute to vehicular pollution. A recent study showed the stretch witnesses a traffic volume of 2,293 passenger car units.
