CHENNAI: Former Chennai city commissioner of police A Arun, an ADGP-rank officer currently under compulsory wait, was questioned by a police team probing the handling of the sexual assault case involving Gem Granites owner R Veeramani.Arun was summoned and questioned at a secluded location in the city for about three hours on Saturday. Sources said investigators had put around 80 questions to Arun and recorded his responses in writing.The inquiry formed part of the investigation into the handling of a case registered in Oct 2025 after a volunteer submitted a pen drive containing a video purportedly showing the sexual assault of a minor girl to the Anti-Vice Squad of Chennai police.Initially the city police filed a closure report dated Feb 19, 2026, citing their inability to establish the identity and age of the girl in the video, among other reasons. A special Pocso court, however, rejected the attempt to close the case under ‘further action dropped’ category, and ordered further investigation. The state then formed an all-women special investigation team to probe the child rape cases and other ‘related matters.’
