3 weeks on: PGI probe into urology malpractice drags on
In his complaint, Dr Godam alleged that patients were directed to a private pathology lab charging ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per test, with a 50% commission kickback routed through intermediaries linked to a faculty member.

Chandigarh: An internal investigation at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) remains pending three weeks after an inquiry panel was formed to probe allegations of financial fraud, kickbacks, and medical negligence in the Advanced Urology Department.Responding to the delay, a PGIMER spokesperson said the matter was under active consideration and that appropriate action would be taken once the findings were finalised. The inquiry follows a formal written complaint submitted to the PGIMER director by Dr Vijay Godam, a resident of Chandrapur, Maharashtra, following a failed penile implant surgery. In his complaint, Dr Godam alleged that patients were directed to a private pathology lab charging ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per test, with a 50% commission kickback routed through intermediaries linked to a faculty member. This latest probe comes alongside earlier unresolved misconduct grievances against faculty in the same department, including an incident where a patient was allegedly examined alone in a locked room without a female attendant and subjected to inappropriate physical contact.Despite multiple inquiry panels constituted to investigate these separate incidents, sources said the accused faculty member continues to operate in the outpatient department (OPD), drawing criticism over institutional accountability delays.
