Ex-Agniveers can join GujaratPolice without taking exams

Gandhinagar: Deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi announced on Saturday that former Agniveers will be directly appointed to Gujarat Police posts without an exam, while the existing 20% quota for Agniveers will remain unchanged.Sanghavi said the decision was taken under the leadership of chief minister Bhupendra Patel and with guidance from central govt. He said former Agniveers, who have served in the Army, Navy or Air Force and guarded the country’s borders in difficult conditions, will strengthen the Gujarat Police through their training, discipline and field experience.Gujarat govt had earlier exempted former Agniveers from the physical efficiency test. With the latest exemption from the written exam, the recruitment process for designated uniformed posts in the police department will become easier for eligible candidates. The govt has also provided a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit.According to the amended rules issued by the home dept on Oct 9, 2026, Rule 5A has been added to the original recruitment rules notified on July 17, 2026. The 20% reservation will apply to eligible former Agniveers who are original residents or permanent residents of Gujarat, subject to document verification.
