Santacruz police book Food Square manager for allegedly mislabelling non-vegetarian chocolate as vegetarian

MUMBAI: Santacruz police have registered a case against the manager of Food Square on Linking Road in Santacruz West and others associated with its labelling department for allegedly selling non-vegetarian chocolate bearing a vegetarian symbol on its wrapper.According to the complaint filed by Simran Chirag Jain, 29, a lawyer residing in JB Nagar, Andheri, she purchased the chocolate from the store on October 4. On October 8, her husband, Chirag, checked the ingredients listed on the wrapper and allegedly found that the chocolate contained non-vegetarian ingredients despite bearing a green vegetarian symbol.The complainant alleged that the product was sold as vegetarian, thereby misleading her about its contents.Santacruz police registered an FIR under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 52 and 26(2)(ii) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The complaint names the store’s manager and other persons associated with the labelling department as accused.
