Retired air force employee reports Rs 11.5 lakh bank fraud in Mumbai
The family filed separate complaints with the cybercrime helpline regarding the bank transfer and the credit card transactions.

MUMBAI: A 79-year-old retired Air Force and Air India employee has alleged that an unidentified person fraudulently transferred Rs 11.51 lakh through unauthorised transactions involving her bank account and credit card.Sakinaka police registered a case of cheating and impersonation against an unidentified person on Thursday after the senior citizen reported 11 fraudulent transactions carried out between October 5 and 7.In her complaint, the Sakinaka resident said the first unauthorised transaction, involving Rs 1.51 lakh, was made from her savings account on October 6. She discovered the transaction after returning home from a vegetable market, where she had paid Rs 16 using GPay.The senior citizen received a message at 5.56pm informing her that a new payee had been added to her ICICI net banking account. Shortly afterwards, she received another message notifying her of the Rs 1.51 lakh deduction.“I contacted the bank’s customer service, following which my bank account, credit card, debit card and net banking services were blocked. The bank reportedly described the incident as cyber fraud and advised me to contact the cybercrime helpline, 1930,” she stated in the FIR.The woman’s son subsequently found messages indicating that 11 transactions totalling Rs 10 lakh had been made using her credit card. A police officer said the bank informed the family on October 7 that the transactions had been carried out between 12.46pm and 4.50pm on October 5.The family filed separate complaints with the cybercrime helpline regarding the bank transfer and the credit card transactions.“The cyber team from the police station has asked the bank to freeze the accounts into which the money was transferred. Meanwhile, details are being gathered to track the accused,” a Sakinaka police officer said.
