35,000 personnel, batons, FRS and drones: Delhi Police told to detain anyone attempting CJP demonstration
Police teams have been instructed to detain anyone attempting to stage a protest, irrespective of their location.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have drawn up an extensive security plan for the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) proposed march to Jantar Mantar on October 10, with more than 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel expected to be deployed, six designated detention centres identified and drones and facial recognition systems set to monitor the area, news agency ANI reported on Friday.According to the ANI report, police teams have been instructed to detain anyone attempting to stage a protest, irrespective of their location. The police have also directed Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) units not to issue weapons for the deployment, with letters sent to the concerned directorates regarding the allocation plan.In a departure from the deployment during the INDIA alliance protest, police teams have now been authorised to carry lathis or batons.Teams have also been told to avoid verbal confrontations with protesters amid concerns over alleged attempts to record and circulate videos portraying the police in a negative light, ANI reported.Those detained will be taken to six designated centres: Chhatrasal Stadium, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex, Surajmal Stadium, Community Centre Daulatpur and Community Centre Pandrawal.Additional women personnel from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have been called in for the deployment. Security arrangements will also include multiple facial recognition systems, additional CCTV cameras, rooftop spotters and drones across Central Delhi.The march comes after CJP called for a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Several student outfits and political groups are also expected to join the demonstration.Delhi Police has maintained that permission has not been granted for the protest.(With agency inputs)
