Guwahati: The Assam cabinet, chaired by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Friday passed a unanimous resolution praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service and crediting him with transforming Assam and the northeast through peace accords, infrastructure and investment.The special meeting, held exclusively for the purpose, began at 10 am in Dispur and lasted 90 minutes. The resolution described Modi as embodying “Seva Hi Samarpan” and called him a “Karma Yogi”.The cabinet resolution said Assam and the northeast had moved “from the margins” to the centre of India’s growth story, and noted that Modi had visited Assam 36 times in under 12 years as PM. It also said the region was now spoken of as the “Ashta Lakshmi” of Bharat.The cabinet highlighted the UNESCO listing of the Charaideo Moidams, classical language status for Assamese, the Bharat Ratna for Bhupen Hazarika and the 125-foot Lachit Borphukan statue at Jorhat.It cited NITI Aayog’s estimate that nearly 25 crore people moved out of multidimensional poverty between 2013-14 and 2022-23.The cabinet resolution said Assam would “continue to contribute wholeheartedly” to the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
