Govt to launch AI policy at tech conclave

Panaji: The department of information technology, electronics & communications (DITE&C) will organise a two-day Goa AI Tech conclave from Oct 22, said IT minister Rohan Khaunte. Khaunte said the conclave will announce the Goa Artificial Intelligence Policy 2026.The policy lays out a three-year framework for 2026–29, built on five strategic pillars that guide AI adoption across governance, industry, skilling and citizen services. It introduces a four-tier, risk-based approach to AI governance, so that safeguards scale with the potential impact of each application, and establishes a dedicated body for implementation, ethics oversight and industry partnerships. The department will also launch the Goa AI Hackathon, built around problem statements sourced from various govt departments. Teams of innovators, startups and students will present AI-based solutions to these real administrative and public-service challenges, with solutions for real-world application in govt, said a department official.“Whether it’s the progressive policies or creating an environment where talent, investment and innovation converge, Goa is creating a distinct identity on the national stage,” said Khaunte. The conclave will host a panel discussion on AI adoption, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders and practitioners to discuss how AI can move from pilots to scale in govt and enterprise. Fireside chats with technology leaders will offer students and startups insights on AI’s future. The state is also expected to sign MoUs with AI-focused companies and partners, including the establishment of an AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) and AI Labs to strengthen Goa’s ecosystem for AI research, skilling, innovation and investment. The conclave is part of the broader Goa AI Mission 2027, and it also places a strong focus on Goa tech diaspora, particularly Goans in technology, finance and research. During the summit, the department will unveil a dedicated diaspora help desk, a single-window portal to assist techies who want to mentor local talent, hire, or invest in tech ventures in Goa.
