MPCC takes out a ‘Black Day for Democracy’ rally in Aizawl

Aizawl: Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Lal Thanzara on Thursday alleged that Union home minister Amit Shah was planning to bring Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) into the fold of BJP during his proposed visit to the state, which was cancelled on Monday.Addressing a meeting organised by the Aizawl District Congress Committee in Aizawl, Thanzara said Shah had cancelled the visit citing unforeseen circumstances. He claimed that if ZPM joins the BJP-led alliance, one of the two BJP legislators would have to be inducted as deputy chief minister. He also alleged that BJP was using the Election Commission to delete voters’ names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. “Tens of thousands of young people are protesting and demanding the resignation of the chief election commissioner and the agitation will continue until the CEC resigns,” he said. After the event, MPCC took out a ‘Black Day for Democracy’ rally in Aizawl, condemning the suppression of democratic rights by the BJP-led govt at the Centre.
