BJP booth prez ‘killed’ in Uluberia, TMC worker held

Howrah: A BJP booth president, 48-year-old Bijoy Bag, died on Thursday after being allegedly attacked with sharp weapons by Trinamool backed assailants in Chandipur under Uluberia Police Station limits.Police said Bag died around 2pm at SSKM Hospital after the midnight assault. His family alleged that local Trinamool neta Dipantar Samanta called Bag out of his home around midnight on Wednesday on the pretext of speaking to him. He was allegedly taken about 300 feet away and attacked on his face, chest and head. His family, alerted by his screams, found him bleeding and took him to Uluberia Medical College and Hospital. He was later shifted to SSKM in critical condition.Uluberia police later arrested main accused Dipantar Samanta and an alleged hired killer from a hideout in Kolaghat. The latter claimed Bag’s murder was a result of a conflict over his extramarital affairs. Bag’s family and BJP rejected the claim as false, saying Dipantar was a known TMC office-bearer and that Bijoy was killed because of political rivalry.
