Pune: A 21-year-old helper on a mini-truck died after the vehicle hit the ceiling of an underpass at a housing society in Wakad on Tuesday afternoon.The victim’s father, Dhananjay Kudale (50), approached Wakad police and lodged a complaint against the driver.Wakad police identified the deceased as Hrushi Kudale of Thergaon and registered a case against the driver under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 125(b) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.Swati Ghuge, sub-inspector of Wakad police, said Kudale had recently passed Standard XII and joined his friend, the mini-truck driver, to help him deliver a consignment of household items to a housing society in Wakad.“They delivered items around 2.15pm and were returning home. They had parked the vehicle in the underground parking lot of the society,” Ghuge said.She said the vehicle had to pass through an underpass to exit the parking area. Kudale was sitting on the vehicle’s carrier and was directing the driver.“While Mane was driving out of the underpass, the carrier hit its ceiling. Kudale could not see the ceiling, as he was not facing it. He suffered severe injuries after his head hit the ceiling,” Ghuge said.Mane and others took Kudale to New Thergaon Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Ghuge said the driver was aware that Kudale was seated on the vehicle’s carrier but drove negligently. “Our investigation is on,” she said.
