NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is working on a series of measures to ease traffic congestion around the Barapullah corridor after the opening of Phase-III, with the PWD examining a dedicated U-turn on Ring Road and changes to lane management and route mapping.PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh also questioned the planning and design of the project under the previous AAP government, while stressing that the immediate priority is to address the traffic problems faced by commuters.The PWD is coordinating with Delhi Police on measures to improve traffic flow, including better use of existing road space, lane management and smoother movement between Sarai Kale Khan, Ring Road and ITO.Delhi Police has also issued an advisory regarding congestion along the corridor.
Delhi govt explores Google Maps route changes
The Delhi government is examining Google Maps route mapping as traffic patterns in the area have changed following the opening of the new corridor.Meanwhile, the PWD is studying the possibility of creating a dedicated U-turn on Ring Road, in front of the Gurudwara, to provide direct access to the Old Barapullah approach road.The proposed U-turn is expected to benefit residents of Siddharth Extension travelling towards Lajpat Nagar, INA and AIIMS by allowing them to use the Old Barapullah road without taking unnecessary diversions or driving on the wrong side.The move is also aimed at improving local connectivity and reducing traffic conflicts.
PWD to appoint traffic, structural design consultant
The minister said the earlier project had been planned and executed in the past, but the present government now has to address the problems being faced by commuters.A traffic and structural design consultant will be appointed to examine the corridor and recommend both immediate and long-term solutions.“We can examine what went wrong in the past, but Delhi’s people need a solution today,” the Minister said, adding that the government is working on immediate traffic measures as well as longer-term solutions.
Old Barapullah Flyover bottleneck identified as cause of traffic jam
On Monday, Delhi Traffic Police identified a structural bottleneck at the Old Barapullah Flyover as the primary reason for the heavy congestion reported after the opening of Barapullah Phase-III.In a post on X, Delhi Traffic Police highlighted the disruption caused by the convergence of roadways.“Main cause of traffic jam after opening of Barapullah Phase-III is a structural bottleneck at the Old Barapullah Flyover,” Delhi Police stated.(With ANI inputs)
